Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital shall be built in 2 Phases. Phase 1 shall involve excavations and piling and commenced officially today June 30th and Phase 2 shall incorporate the construction of the entire hospital building.

7. Who designed the new hospital?
  Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital is designed by Studio Altieri International a well known Italian architectural firm with more than 120 years experience in designing hospitals in Europe and Several Countries around the globe under the leadership of Arch. Alberto Altieri a renowned Architect from Italy. Studio Altieri International operates from Dubai Health Care City.
8. Who are the building contractors for the hospital?
 

The contractor assigned for fencing, shoring, excavation and piling is A.P.C.C. While the Main Contractor for the hospital shall be selected and assigned during September 2009.

9. How many employees does the hospital expect to have at the time of commencement of operations?
 

Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital workforce shall comprise of more than 1,000 Health Care Professional. This workforce is expected to be hired and assigned prior to the commencement of the hospital operation.

10. What environmentally friendly or “green” building designs have been incorporated into the new hospital design?
 

The Energy Saving strategies for Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital building have been treated using different constructive solutions that allows sensible reductions in the global energy consumption. Mainly, the active wall facade system using the HVAC aspiration system creates an internal flow inside the cell facade maintaining the room temperature and comfort stable during the day reducing major cost for energy generation, especially considering the temperature average in the Region.

Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital will have a dedicated Helipad, as shown in the General Master Plan that is located in the east part of the external gardens and directly connected with the Emergency Department to accommodate any type of pediatric emergencies excluding Road Traffic Accidents.

12. What do you mean by ‘single room concept’?
 

The children are intended as unique and individuals with their own specialized needs. The Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital creates for them a kid and family size place in a safety environment, encouraging the family support, stimulating children senses and constant education.

This statement is firmly supported by the "single room concept" where the children and their families can preserve the necessary privacy and have enough space for their needs.

Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital shall have a Child Life Department that helps prepare children for medical treatments and procedures using special teaching tools, dolls and medical equipment. In addition there are school rooms/class rooms that offers educational instruction and support to the long term patients.

Also, Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital has a Family Resource Center that offers support to parents, siblings and the rest of the family equipped with a library where families can have access to information about various illnesses of children and modalities of treatment.

Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital shall be provided by an Auditorium that can accommodate 370 people fully equipped with the latest audio visual technologies and the theatre is capable of hosting events from the community in addition to being a facility to conduct Conferences, Congresses, Seminars and Workshops.

19. What is the capacity of the hospital’s emergency centre?
 

Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital has a comprehensive Emergency Department with 5 Treatment Rooms of which 2 are Major Treatment Rooms fully equipped to handle all types of Emergencies except Road Traffic Accidents that shall continue to be treated at Rashid Hospital. In addition there are 14 Examination Rooms and 3 Isolation Rooms dedicated for treating infectious cases. The Emergency Department shall receive cases by Ambulance, Helicopters and by their transportation. The predicted number of cases per year is 50,350 Cases/Year.

21. What breakthrough medical technologies/innovative procedures will the hospital feature?
 

Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital shall be performing specialized heart surgeries including heart and lung transplant, kidney transplant and other transplant surgeries, in addition to advanced neurological surgeries, and advanced surgical procedures to remove cancer tumours, Bone Marrow Transplant and Blood Cell Transplantation.

Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital shall be performing advanced surgical procedures such as: Atrial Septal Defect Repair, AV Canals, Cardio-Pulmonary Bypass, Croablation (to correct rapid heart rhythm), Fontan procedure (final operation done to repair tricuspid atresia), Robotic Surgery to repair some congenital heart defects, including Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) and vascular ring, Ross Procedure for aortic valve failure and Heart transplant. Also, the hospital shall be conducting Mohs Micrographic Controlled Surgery, Bariatric procedures, including laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), and cerebrovascular surgeries as well as Urology and Kidney Transplant.
